Synopsis:

Today, there are tens of thousands of industrial wireless sensor network deployments underway, wireless mesh standards have been ratified, and dozens of products are planned to be launched by the end of the year.

The ability to deploy nearly unlimited numbers of wireless sensors in harsh and remote locations has enabled new applications not possible with hard-wired systems.

Although the standards battle between WirelessHART and ISA100.11a has complicated product development and slowed adoption, it has driven innovation and attracted new entrants. Threats and opportunities abound as end users demand a unified standard and emerging technologies such as IP sensor networking gain traction.

ON World’s survey with 105 industrial end users found that that more than half are planning WSN solutions within the next 18 months.

Report Overview:

This report covers the growing market opportunities for Wireless Sensor Networking (WSN) in industrial automation including the following:

Market Forces: Identification of the largest and fasting growing WSN markets in 15 target market segments and three landscapes: process, vertical and discrete

Forecasts: Five year market size forecasts by unit, revenue, solution, target market, technology and by geography

End User Perspectives: An in-depth survey with 105 plant managers, process engineers, and systems integrators

Technology Evaluation: Comprehensive technology evaluation on the standards situation, potentially disruptive technologies, and technology requirements for WSN technologies such as WirelessHART, ISA100.11a, ZigBee, WiFi and proprietary

Value System: Segmentation, disruption versus sustainability analysis, and profiles on 70 companies including platform providers, software developers, WSN systems manufacturers, and component suppliers

ON World has been covering Wireless Sensor Networking since 2002 and published dozens of reports on related areas.
